Exporting

Last updated: 28/08/2026

In the main navigation bar, go to Dataset -> Export.

Exporting annotations proceeds as follows:

  1. Filter documents using an NQL filter. Most simply, all documents having annotations can be retrieved putting "HAS ANNOTATION". Not including this filter will typically lead to a much larger export.
  2. Choose an annotation scheme. Once an annotation scheme is selected, you can further specify which scopes and users to include in the export. If you want to export all annotations, leave as it is.
  3. Choose the export format and select columns to be excluded (dropped). Then, click Download.

Note that all items filtered in the first step will be exported. If they do not have annotations from the sources filtered by in the third step, these annotations will be left empty in the exported table.

Good to know:

Exporting more than 15,000 items at a time can be difficult or not work at all. You can try to either split the data you want to export using the NQL filter or contact support for a custom export of large amounts of data. Splitting the data for export can be done for instance by year (publication year for academic articles). For a split in two, run the first export with the filter "year: <=2010" and the second export with the filter "year: >2010".
